Graphic Design Process

How we will work together

Many people wonder what's required from them during the graphic design process, and what I need in order to start working on a project. Each project is unique but here's a brief general overview of what you might expect.

When you initially make contact with me I will establish whether a meeting is required in order for me to quote for your design project. Usually I am able to send price estimates after a short email or telephone conversation. A meeting can then be arranged following the quote acceptance if needed.

Stage 1, the brief - your thoughts are essential

A brief is required from you before work commences on any design project. It is the most important part of the design stage as it provides me with essential background information regarding your business and helps me to get a clear understanding of what is required. If you have any ideas or preferences in mind this is when I need to know.

Stage 2, initial design concepts – my input commences

Once you have received and approved an initial price estimate I may require a non-refundable deposit before work commences on any design project, this will be based on a percentage of the quotation as applicable (Usually 50% unless otherwise agreed).  An invoice will be sent at this stage.

Once a deposit has been received I can start the process of designing your artwork. At this point I will need you to provide any files that might be needed to carry out the work i.e. all imagery and text content. I can quote on sourcing imagery for you if required. Initial designs will be emailed to you within an agreed timescale in PDF format so that you can preview them.

Please bear in mind that although I love to get started on projects right away good design takes time and I might have lots of projects running at one time. I will need to pencil your project into my schedules, however I always do all that I can to meet deadlines.

Stage 3, review – time for your feedback

Once you have had time to think about the initial designs I will ask for your feedback and use this to develop the artwork further. Together we will revise and update a design until you are completely happy with the final result. The initial price estimate will usually include up to two artwork revisions before additional costs may be incurred. You will be notified of any costs over and above the initial estimate before I carry out the work.

Stage 4, finalise and payment – your final sign off

When you are happy with the design and have given your final approval you will be sent an invoice for the total amount via email.  I will require payment in full on all projects before artwork is released. I will then supply you with suitable files for your use, or I can send the artwork direct to an agreed printing company.
